Amazing place, amazing people. I had a really unique experience. We went for a walk in the amazonian forest. A primary forest. Only 1h30 away from Belem, by car. Fernanda and Danielson are two biologist, passionated about birds and nature. As they grew up and live there in the village, they not only have a scientific but also a deeply personal experience of the forest. O Refúgio dos Naturalistas is an incredible place that provides an excellent Amazonian experience next to the forest, in the State of Pará. This space was created and is maintained by a team of biologists and wildlife observation guides who bring together their work with community-based tourism for a rich experience in the territory. The colors, sounds, and flavors of the forest are the daily life of the refuge with the special flavor of affection from Pará.
The experience was excellent! I'm from an undergraduate class in Biological Sciences. We took a trip to the naturalists' refuge, the place has a beautiful, well-preserved landscape, and the guides welcomed us very well. It was a unique experience! We walked inside the forest and along trails where there were places where we were able to see and hear different species of birds, we saw the largest arachnid in the world (goliath spider), and other interactions that were happening in the landscape.
I have never had the experience of birdwatching before and my first time was with this super competent couple, highly qualified professionals. Even though I had no experience in the area, I had all the necessary guidance to practice this type of tourism, which is inspiring and transformative. The Naturalists' Refuge is literally what the name says: a corner of peace and contact with nature. Show! Score a thousand!
